    Sounds like you may have a dead rodent inside a wall cavity and behind cabs. Properly ventalate the garage as much as possible, fresh air will help remove odor. If odor is still present I would recommend contacting a local Restoration company for assitance or if they have an ozone machine. Ozone is a very strong oxidizer and can remove strong odors.   4. I live in a four-plex. Tenants in a connected unit smoke cigarettes, and the smoke comes over into my unit via the attic. The manager doesn't believe me because he can't smell it himself. (He is a a heavy smoker!) I need to find a way to detect that smoke,(or nicotine).Are there kits that will read and register nicotine available to anyone, or a service that will do so?     One way is to get a general degreaser and spray on a surface in the attic if nicotine is present you will notice a brown/yellow color run, wipe with a white rag and if these colors are present you have a good chance it is. You also can take a swab sample on the suspected surfaces and call a local testing lab or higher an industrial hygienist to test areas.    « less
  5. I have just discovered mold on some treated lumber i had stacked in the yard. we are to get 3 to 5 inches of rain by sunday, then temperatures in the low 30s for high temperatures next week.     Wood is a very porous mataerial and will retain moisture. All I can recommend is to place wood on block or pallets and cover with a trap or poly (plastic sheeting). Prior us using the lumber I would recommend to dry as best as possible and clean all mold with bleach and water.    « less
  6. I just bought a 1993 parkmodel home. When I pulled up the carpet in the bedroom ( beside the bathroom) I found water stains pooled in the corners of the outside wall. The stains were dark in color and the floor was not currently wet. Where should I look to locate the cause. The previous owners stated they were not aware of any leaks.   7. We had a furnace malfunction in our home and all our possesions were covered in soot. The insurance company says they can get our microfiber sofa cleaned but I am a little uncomfortable with that. I have a 5 mth old baby who, in the future, will be around the sofa all the time.   10. Our basement flooded this past Spring. We thought our Christmas ornaments were safe, but we were wrong! Most had to be thrown out, but I have some glass icicles I would like to clean.     If the items are glass then any general cleaning product will work, the boxes they were stored in should just be discarded.
